Mickens is a junior outfielder from Las Vegas with a strong, compact 5-11, 190 lb body. He traveled the farthest from home to get to the event and the PG staff enjoyed the teasing they got from Micken’s dad about the warm temperatures in Las Vegas compared to the low 40’s chill of Iowa. Mickens hits from a straight up stance with a short stride to the ball. He has very busy hands and a Gary Sheffield type approach at the plate and takes a full, aggressive cut with very good raw bat speed. Mickens was looking to loft the ball and was consistently under the ball during the games and batting practice. If he is able to stay on the ball better and all the pop ups turn into line drives, Mickens is going to hit with plenty of power. On a cold day, Mickens ran a 7.20 and showed good range in the outfield and made some nice plays during games.
