Justin Marks is a 2006 LHP with a 6'3'', 175 lb. frame from Owensboro KY, who attends Owensboro Catholic HS. He has a slender, projectable build with long arms and hasn't begun to add strength yet. Marks throws from a balanced delivery with very quick hips and an even quicker arm stroke. He hides the ball well in the back of his delivery and releases the ball from an extended 3/4's release point. Marks showed plus command of an 86-88 mph and really used it well to set up his other pitches. He has not problem throwing inside to right handed hitters, even backing them off the plate before throwing a back door breaking ball. His 71 mph curveball has good, tight spin and a sharp 1/7 type of break. Marks' 74 mph change up was a big time pitch, with excellent arm speed and nice fading action away from right handed hitters. He could use this pitch more often. Marks also threw one of the most unique pitches we've seen. It's a power knuckleball in the 74-80 mph range. Sometimes he throws it with a slider release and it has nasty cutting action. Other times it has more late tumbling action like a hard split finger. It's definitely an interesting pitch and we're not sure that Marks really knows what it's going to do from pitch to pitch. With four present quality pitches and excellent command, Marks is a top level prospect and he has the projectability to get even better. One PG scout compared him to a Jeremy Sowers with a better breaking ball, citing another former Kentucky left hander and two-time first round draft pick.
