2004 National Academic Showcase
Justin Handler is a physically strong 2005 player from North Potomac, MD, who had one of the best swings at the Academic Showcase. He has good present hand strength and a short, quick swing that’s balanced and level. It’s the kind of easy, low maintenance swing that’s going to enable Handler to hit for a high average with plenty of doubles at the college level. Defensively, Handler has good actions and soft hands and his game arm strength was much better than his workout game strength. Handler’s ability to catch and his probable ability to play second base and the corner outfield positions might make a utility player his best role in college. One thing we’re pretty sure of though is that Handler’s going to hit the ball well. Justin is an excellent student.
