Matus is a 5-8, 140 lb second baseman from Miami. He has good speed and quickness, running the 60 in 7.20 and also threw 78 mph during infield drills. Matus uses his quickness well on defense and moves to the ball well and has a quick, balanced release. He made several good plays up the middle and showed good arm strength as well in games. He can really play defense well. Matus has deceptive strength for his size. He attacks the ball well at the plate with a sound line drive swing and has good leverage at contact Matus also pitched a couple of innings in relief, throwing a 77-78 mph fastball and a big breaking 64-65 mph curveball from a simple step and throw delivery. Overall, Matus is a nice looking player who can help his team win. He is also a very good student.

Joshua Matas is a 2006 right handed pitcher with a small and slender frame from Miami, FL. He lists himself as a primary pitcher, but at this point we’re pretty confident that Matas is a much better infield prospect. Matas had very smooth infield actions with a quick, soft glove and solid arm strength across the diamond. He can play shortstop at this level and maybe at the college levels as well. Despite his 135 lb frame, Matas swung the bat well, too, showing quick hands and good strength with a line drive swing that produced a very high percentage of solid contact in batting practice and in games. This kid knows how to hit and his line drives might not get to the wall now, but they are going to find the gaps on the field. On the mound, Matas threw 74-77 mph with his fastball with a 62 mph curveball. He got hitters out with good command and solid delivery mechanics, but he’s a high school pitcher at this point. Matas could be a star college infielder down the road. Joshua is a very good student.
