Joseph (J J) Rizzo is a 2006 3B/P with a 5'11'', 170 lb. frame from Coral Springs, Florida, who attends JP Taravella High School. He has a lean and athletic body with room to grow. Defensively he has good actions at third base with a quick release on his throws. He gets in good position to make the plays, and shows range to both sides. Also, Rizzo has good body control coming in on slow rollers. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with a quiet approach. He has solid bat speed through the hitting zone, and he puts the ball in play consistently. Rizzo is a contact hitter with a slap style approach. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good mechanics. He was coming off an injury, and his fastball topped out at 81 mph. We have seen him throw better in the past and know there is more velocity in him. He also mixed in a 69 mp breaking ball and a 69 mph changeup. Rizzo has good command of all three pitches, and he is an excellent student as well.
