Jonathan Martin is a 2007 catcher/right handed pitcher from Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Virginia, with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame. Defensively he has a slinging arm action from behind the plate, and shows an accurate arm on his throws to second base. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who takes aggressive swings from a narrow stance with a low hand set. Martin shows bat speed through the hitting zone, and stays balanced throughout his swing. He is a contact hitter who will hit from gap to gap. On the mound his fastball topped out at 75 mph with sinking action. He also mixed in a 59 mph curveball with depth. Martin has upside at the plate, and he is an outstanding student.

Jonathan Martin is a 6'1" 185 pound 2007 catcher and third baseman from Martinsville, Virginia who is solid behind the plate with a great catchers build. During the workout, he ran a 7.88 60 and had a pop time of 2.25 with a 70 mph velocity. He is still developing arm strength and should continue to lower his pop times. He keeps the ball around the bag with his accurate throws and is very good receiver. At the plate, Jonathan has good bat speed and a balanced swing. He has a good approach with more power potential once he uses his lower half more. He is somewhat raw and is developing his tools. Jonathan is also a very good student as well with a 3.9 gpa.

Martin is a 6-1 sophomore catcher from Virginia with a medium frame that can add more strength in the future. He looks like a young man who enjoys playing catcher and showed nice leadership skills behind the plate and with his teammates. He worked hard blocking balls and working with the pitchers. Martin has developing arm strength on his throws but has a quick release which helped him in game situations. At the plate, Martin hits from a no load approach with little trigger and his hands way back. It’s hard to swing wood like that and generate much bat speed but Martin had a nice level swing plane and some present strength and likely can show some gap power with metal in his hands. He is a solid student off the field.
