John Rodriguez is a 2006 left handed pitcher and first baseman with a 5'10" 195 pound frame from Miami, Florida who attends Braddock High School. He has a stocky build with good strength. John has sound mechanics and good balance. He has a funky motion which throws hitters off some but he is still loose and easy. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and his fastball runs in at 76 mph. His curveball is his best pitch at 64 mph with good 12-6 break. He does have the ability to cut his fastball as well. Rodriguez is a left handed hitter with a line drive swing plane and a contact approach. He has a wide stance with good bat speed. His swing is short and he hits the ball to all fields. John is a crafty lefty who throws strikes to both sides of the plate who will keep hitters off balance.

Rodriguez is a 5-10 junior left handed pitcher from Miami. As our scout remarked in his notes, he’s a "low velocity painter". Rodriguez has a balanced on-line delivery with a smooth arm stroke and a deception by the ear release point. His fastball is 68-73 mph and he does a good job of working the pitch around the strike zone. Rodriguez’s curveball is in the low 60’s and has good spin to it. He didn’t show a change up during his three innings of work but you’d figure this would be a good pitch for Rodriguez in a game situation rather than in a showcase.
