2004 Indoor Pitchers/Catchers Showcase
John Feimster: Feimster is a junior left handed hitting catcher from Illinois with a good young body that’s projects for getting bigger and stronger yet. Feimster’s best tool right now is his bat. He has a nice level swing with good bat speed and is just going to get better as he gets stronger. The PG Staff tested all the hitters on a laser device that measures bat speed hitting off a tee and Feimster had one of the top couple measurements of the Showcase. We love seeing left handed hitting catchers, too. Defensively, Feimster received the ball well in the strike zone but was very raw with his footwork on shifting and throwing. That and a few other signs indicated that he might not have been catching too long and is just adjusting to the position. Feimster has some arm strength that will also improve as he gets his feet in better position to throw. His bat and body makes him a definite follow and as he develops his receiving technique he could become a highest level catching prospect.
