Avanzino is a 6-4, 210 lb corner infielder from New York with a pro profile body. He's a primary first baseman defensively but has the arm strength and actions to play third base at the next level. We thought that after seeing him during infield drills and then Avanzino went to third during the games and was one of the better defensive third baseman at the event. He has an especially accurate arm. Avanzino's big tool is his bat, though. He has a powerful swing with plus bat speed and very good extension out front. Avanzino hits from a wide stance and turns on the ball with power. He took the best batting practice of any player at the showcase and really must put on a power display with metal in his hands. Like many young power hitters he can get long in games but Avanzino has a good funamental swing that should be able to make adjustments. He's a very good looking overall player with the added value of being a third baseman as well as a first baseman. Avanzino is also a very good student.

Avanzino is a big boned 6-4, 210 lb right handed hitting first baseman from New York who also plays some third base. He is very strong in his upper legs and hips and uses his strength well in his swing. Avanzino has a long, lofted power hitter’s swing and likes to attack the ball on inner half of the plate. He hit some a long way in batting practice and followed that up with a couple doubles in game action, including one off the fence. With his size, strength and approach, Avanzino projects as a very productive power hitter in the future. Avanzino showed some arm strength in infield at 81 mph but is best suited defensively for first base. He is a 7.87 runner in the 60.

Avanzino is a 6-4, 210 lb senior first baseman from New York with a big league type body. He has also played some third base in the past and has shown us the tools and quickness to play that position well. He's a 7.58 runner in the 60 and threw 79 mph across the diamond from first base while showing good fielding actions. Avanzino hits out of a balanced stance with a short, compact swing for a big hitter with power. He shows hand strength and the ability to drive through the ball with wood. Avanzino projects big time power in the future and he's a pretty polished hitter right now. It's easy to forget he's from New York and may not have had the repetitions that some southern based players have with the bat. Very good college follow. Avanzino is also a very good student.

John is an "06" 3B/1B from NY. He has that Major League body with strong legs and wide shoulders. He showed good INF actions at third with an accurate arm. He's not flashy, but very consistent. At the plate he hits out of a wide base with a short compact stroke. He shows excellent balance and strong hands. He creates good bat speed and has big time power potential. John is a very good student. He's a very interesting "06" that needs to be followed closely.
