LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2004 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Michael Hallam is a physically strong and mature 6'2" left hander from Texas who listed himself as a primary pitcher, but also has the potential to be a power hitting first baseman. On the mound, Hallam through from a full windup with a big leg kick and hip turn and a high ¾ release point, along with a head jerk at release. It’s a multi-variable, max effort delivery that is bound to affect his control, which it did. Hallam’s fastball was 81-83 mph and he threw a good 71-73 mph curveball. At the plate, Hallam, a LH hitter, hits from a somewhat open stance with an upper body coil and bat wrap. He can be late getting his hips turned into the ball, but Hallam’s raw strength and bat speed are very impressive and the ball jumps off his bat to all fields. A little quicker hip turn is going to unleash more power and Hallam shows the bat head skills to take advantage of his strength. He's very interesting and Michael is a very good student.
