Steven Matz is a 2009 LHP/1B with a 6'2'', 185 lb. frame from Stony Brook, NY who attends Ward Melville HS. Steven has a very loose arm and shows the potential to be a big time power lefty. He used a Hi 3/4 arm angle with a fast, easy arm to produce a fastball that topped at 91 at the Metrodome. He showed good command of his fastball and also of a solid curveball and changeup. Hitters struggled picking the ball up out of his hand as he hides the ball well in his delivery.Don't be surprised if Matz shoots up the charts because we think he has even more velocity in that left arm. Steven is a very good student and a top 2009 LHP to follow.

Steven Matz is a 2009 LHP/1B with a 6'2'', 185 lb. frame from Stony Brook, NY who attends Ward Melville. Steven has a big lean frame, long loose arm action, excellent arm speed, good mechanics, good command of all pitches, fastball has late arm side run, good change up with life, and a potential plus curveball. He is also pretty good around the bag at first and shows good ability at the plate with good bat speed, extension, and pop. He is also a good student.
