2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Criner is a 5-11, 165 lb senior outfielder from Pennsylvania. He showed good running speed at 7.18 and threw 75 mph from the outfield. He has a short, wristy contact oriented swing at the plate and showed the ability to make contact to all fields. Criner isn't strong enough right now to drive the ball effectively with the wood bat but his ability to handle the bat head probably translates to a high average hitter with metal against high school level pitching. He has a good overall idea at the plate of what he's doing. Criner also pitched a bit and threw 76 mph with a 68 mph breaking ball. Criner is an excellent student.
