2004 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
James is a 2005 grad from Stockdale High School in the Bakersfield area. He has a tall and lean 6'3" frame that can add plenty of strenth in the future. He has a very good quick swing with good bat control. In game competition at the showcase he drove the ball hard to the gaps and showed solid raw power with the ability to center the ball consistently. James handled himself well at first base on defense. He has the athletic ability and arm strength to play the outfield as well. On the mound, James has a standard 3/4's arm slot with a full circle in back and some good arm speed out front. He has a consistent release point and a balanced delivery to throw strikes with his 77-79 mph fastball. James commands the strike zone well and has a good feel for his 69-70 change up. He could tighten up his curveball some. Overall, James has good present tools that are just going to improve with additional strength. He's an outstanding student who should make a very good college player.
