2004 National Academic Showcase
Jake Thomas is a 5'10" left handed hitting 2005 outfielder from Evanston, IL. He lacks some upper body strength right now, but showed us somevery interesting tools that could develop if he gets stronger. Thomas throws very well from the outfield and had good online carry on his throws that topped out at 83 mph on the outfield radar gun. He didn’t pitch at the Showcase, but being a lefty, it would be interesting to see him try. Thomas took a good very batting practice and hit the ball solidly to the middle of the field in games, although a couple of his line drives found infielders instead of going for hits. He has good rhythm and smoothness to his swing and could develop some gap power with added strength. He runs fairly well and shows good baseball instincts. His size and athleticism allows for lots of projection. His best baseball years are ahead of him. Jake is an outstanding student.
