2007 Mid Atlantic Underclass Showcase
Spencer Medick is a 2009 LHP/1B/OF with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Baltimore, MD who attends Woodberry Forest. Spencer has a tall, lean athletic build with some room to fill out. On the mound Spencer throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a short arm action that produces cut action on his fastball. Spencer's best pitch is a nasty slider with very tight spin and bite action. He is fairly raw in his delivery and he needs to work on finishing center to the plate and getting more extension out front. At the plate Spencer has a line-drive swing plane and makes consistent solid contact to all fields. For the most part Spencer does a good job of staying inside the ball, but will occasionally get to long with his swing path. In the field Spencer shows clean actions at both first base and in the outfield. He best projects at first base, where he is good around the bag with nice hands. Spencer is a solid student that should attract the attention of many mid to high-level college programs.
