Anders Sutherland is a 2006 LHP/1B from The Bishop's School in San Diego, CA, with a 6'3", 195 lb. frame. He is a crafty left handed pitcher with a good feel for the strike zone, and has the ability to slow the hitter's bat down. Sutherland threw three strong innings allowing four hits while striking out one. He gets ahead of hitters and gets them to swing at his pitch. Should be a successful pitcher with a supporting defensive cast because you are sure to see the ball in play early in the count. Sutherland has projectable velocity with present pitchability, and has the frame to pitch a good workload. In time he should be competitive to pitch at the next level with success. Crafty left handed pitchers with a feel for the strike zone do not come around everyday. Defensively he has good hands at first base, and gets in good fielding position on the mound as well. At the plate he hits from an upright stance with solid bat speed and good looking swing. He is a pull hitter who loves the ball on the inner half. Sutherland is also an outstanding student.
