Aaron Northcraft is a 2009 RHP/OF with a 6'4'', 205 lb. frame from Newport Beach, CA who attends Mater Dei. Northcraft has a big XL frame with a strong projectable build. Northcraft pitches from a L 3/4 slot with a long arm action. He has a loose arm with arm speed. Northcraft uses a very high leg kick that provides him with deception. He uses drop and drive style mechanics and opens up early in his delivery. Northcraft gets armside run and sink on his fastball and should get lots of ground balls with that pitch. He also throws and 11/5 breaking ball with nice spin. At the plate, Northcraft starts with flexed knees and a semi crouched approach. He maintains good balance in his swing and takes his hands to the ball well. He generates bat speed and has some raw power. Northcraft has projectable velocity and is a solid follow.

Aaron Northcraft is a 2009 RHP/OF with a 6'4'', 200 lb. frame from Newport Beach, CA who attends Mater Dei HS. He was selected as a Top '09 Prospect at this event and has one of the brighter futures of all the players that attended. Northcraft has a long and rangy body that is an excellent pitcher's body now and still projectable. He has a long, loose arm that works easily from a 3/4 arm slot. Northcraft has a unique delivery with an exaggerated leg kick that takes his foot above his head but it seems easy for him to do and he stays in rhythm. Eventually he gets to good frontside extension which resulted in sneaky 82-85 mph fastball that seemed much faster at times. His fastball has good length and can be expected to make a jump into the mid-upper 80s soon. Northcraft gets a lot of run on the fastball. He does have a loose breaking ball that needs to improve. He was trying to throw a curveball (68 mph) but that pitch does not fit his arm slot. A slurve or slider would be better. His best secondary pitch was a good 70 mph changeup that actually could have been a split-finger fastball. As an '09 pitcher Nortcraft has a fairly high ceiling and will be on all the recruiting lists of Southern California college programs. Someday he likely will get pro attention as well. He certainly passes the eye test.
