Mitchell Newsome is a 2010 MIF/P/3B with a 5'11'', 155 lb. frame from Alpharetta, GA who attends Alpharetta HS. He has a nice broad shouldered frame with good strength potential. Newsome's best tool is his bat and it should keep improving as he gets stronger. He has some present bat speed that will keep developing and a short, line drive swing that has some extension out front for future power potential. Newsome does a good job keeping his swing simple and on plane with the ball; it will be a good base to build from as he gets stronger and bigger. Defensively, Newsome has quick feet and showed the ability to make diving plays and use his athletic ability. He doesn't have the speed or actions to project in the middle infielder at present and looks like a future third baseman. Newsome showed his arm strength best on the mound, where he threw 80 mph from a smooth, balanced delivery with a 64 mph curveball. Newsome is a good follow. He's also a good student.
