Very sound defensive actions, potential plus arm strength. Smooth swing, keeps weight back, shows bat speed, can turn on inside pitches, quick hands, has hitting tools, good pitch recognition, plays hard. Athlete with baseball skills, follow closely. Grant Newsome is a 2010 OF/C/1B with a 5'11'', 160 lb. frame from Alpharetta, GA who attends Alpharetta HS. He has a medium athletic build and some strength. Newsome has the same hitting mechanics as his brother, Mitchell, no real surprise there. He tends to get out on his front side a bit early and dive into the ball, but gets his hands extended and through well. It's a good looking swing that should continue to develop for him. Defensively, Newsome is a polished outfielder for his age and has very sound fundamentals throwing and on routes. He has a short, quick arm stroke and good developing arm strength. Newsome is a 7.53 runner, so he'll need to continue to work on his speed. He is an excellent student.
