Gerardo Parra is an athletic looking 6'1/186 L/L OF/LHP from Venezuela. He is a free agent but that should not last long after his performance in Tropicana Field. A lefty who we've seen touch 92-93 he was 91 this time out. He has a lightning fast arm, out of a bigger than necessary delivery. While he is a possible MLB pitcher we like him best as an outfielder. We expect him to become a Big League player as an outfielder. He has a plus MLB RF arm 93 mph and accurate. He has CF type speed and instincts. His OF actions are outstanding. He just flat hits the ball hard every time we see him. His bat is very fast and he has very good natural hitting ability. Top pitchers are always in for a battle when this kid is at the plate. He's an outstanding baserunner as well. He could end up hitting the long ball in pro baseball. This kid needs to be in professional baseball right now, he's too good for the amateur level.

Parra, a 16 year old Venezuelan, was the top free agent prospect at the World Showcase and might have been as both a pitcher and player, although we didn’t get to fully evaluate him as a player. He has a very live, high strung body with natural athletic actions and plenty of quick twitch muscles. Parra was a steady 88 mph on the mound with some run and sink from a ¾’s release point. His curveball was 72-74 mph and he tends to raise his release point a notch to get over the ball better, but the pitch gets good spin and downer breaking action. Parra didn’t participate in the skills portion of the workout but stung the ball hard in 3 at bats in games, made several excellent catches in the outfield and looked to be at least a 6.6/6.7 runner. I saw Twins LHP Johan Santana extensively in Venezuela when he was between 15 and 17 years old and to me Parra is extremely similar and maybe even a level better.
