Greg Amorosso is a 2007 left hand pitcher from Cox HS, residing in Virginia Beach, VA. Amorosso has a strong, lean and athletic build on a 6'1" 190 lb. frame that still has some room to fill out. There were a number of very hard throwers in this showcase, but there were also a high number of very quality left handers that had feel and stuff. Amorosso was one of them and was ranked #78 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. He pitches from an over the top slot with a clean arm action that is so easy his stuff kind of jumps on hitters. He has a shallow arc on the backside which also quickens up the time he takes to deliver the ball. Amorosso can be a little deceptive because of his delivery. He sort of jumps a bit to the plate, with his body moving forward first and his arm following a bit later than most pitchers. The great thing about what he does is that Amorosso is still generally on time with his delivery and has good command. His fastball topped at 88 and ranged 84-87 mph, with good command and plus run on the arm side. He showed that he can pitch with his fastball, a great asset for a young lefty to possess and an indication of a very bright future. Amorosso also showed a nice 68-72 mph with big shape and plus spin. That breaker rolled with good downward bit and depth. It is an above average pitch and can be used for outs or for strikes. To round off his repertoire, Amorosso also has a plus change-up. That offering was 75-78 mph and was thrown with plus arm speed. His overall pitchability rates on the plus side and his idea of how to pitch is outstanding. Amorosso looks like a big college winner and in time will get a pro opportunity and should win at that level too. If he were to make a 4-5 mph jump in velocity this spring, he moves into the upper top ten rounds of the draft.

Amorosso is a 6-1, 180 lb junior left handed pitcher from Virginia who we've seen frequently over the past year. He's a good athlete who can play the outfield and hit a little bit when he's not pitching. Amorosso throws from a deliberate delivery with a long, fairly smooth arm action. He tends to hunch over his upper body while throwing, which flattens out his angle to the plate. Amorosso's fastball was 81-83 mph at UNC and was fairly straight. His best pitch was a 66 mph curveball that he uses to back door right handed hitters. It has a big sweeping break to it. Amorosso's 75 mph change up is a quality pitch as well when he throws if for strikes. We've seen Amorosso with better raw stuff before and suspect that a long summer of pitching and playing a position has taken a bit of a temporary toll on him. He's a solid follow as a left handed starter with 3 good pitches who should continue to get better.

Greg Amorosso is a medium built 2007 left handed pitcher from Virginia with a very bright future on the mound. He already has a very advanced idea on how to mix his pitches and get hitters out, and his stuff is solid now for his age and should keep improving. Amorosso has a good on-line delivery with some bend at his waist, and a full arm circle in back. His fastball was 79-82 mph with some tailing action away from right handed hitters. Amorosso’s curveball was a quality pitch at 67-71 mph with good, tight spin and some downer break. He also threw a 70 mph change up that he pushed a bit, but got the same type of running action as his fastball. Amorosso’s command of all three pitches was excellent, and he could probably win at a high level right now with his present stuff and pitching savvy.
