Billy Wardell is a 2009 LHP/OF with a 6'1'', 170 lb. frame from Oakley, CA who attends Freedom HS. Wardell has a lean athletic body and uses a 3/4 arm slot to throws fastballs that sat 87-90 in the Metrodome. His fastball has life and he is not afraid to throw inside to right handed hitters. He has a long, loose fast arm that projects. His curveball is nasty with depth and good bite. He completes his three pitch arsenal with a solid change up. He also showed his athleticism by running a 6.99 sixty. Billy has made a verbal commitment to UNLV

Billy Wardell is a 2009 LHP/OF/1B with a 6'1'', 160 lb. frame from Oakley, CA who attends Freedom HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event and one of the more interesting players to scout. Wardell has a lean and wiry athletic build. He is built like an athletic baseball player, with some quick twitch fiber. There is a hint of explosiveness in all that Wardell does on the field and as he gets stronger he will steadily develop as one of the top all-around players in the west. Presently he rates well as a two-way D1 prospect. On the mound he has a quick arm that works from a high 3/4 slot and an athletic delivery. Wardell's fastball was 85-87 mph and there is more in there. He gets some natural sink at times on the fastball. He also has a good curveball (70 mph) with tight spin and some feel. It was particularly tough on left hand hitters as it was diving below bats. He is a quick worker and very aggressive in attacking hitters. Wardell also fields his position quite well. Offensively he has tools too. The ball gets off Wardell's bat well as he sprayed line drives to all fields. His hips can work a bit early but when he stayed closed he was really good, looking capable of hitting for high average. His inside out swing will eventually develop in a gap to gap swing with some pop. Wardell showed a strong outfield arm and moves to the ball well. Major D1 programs will be on him hard next summer. Someday he will also get pro interest, probably most of it coming during his college years, though it could come earlier.
