Tolsma is a Senior third baseman with hitting and pitching ability. He showed a good level swing and the ball came off his bat quickly. He put the bat on the ball versus some very good pitchers in the showcase and stayed inside the ball well. Although he finished in a low position it is a productive swing. He didn't miss putting many balls in play using all fields. He profiles nicely at 3B with corner arm strength and showing some power with wood. On the mound, Tolsma showed his arm strength with 84-87 mph velocity and good mechanics. His arm works very well with a long fast action from a high 3/4 arm slot, getting lots of power from his body. His curveball showed a sharp bite at 76-78 mph and using a knuckle-curve grip it came out of his hand easy. He also showed an 80 mph change-up that lacked life but showed good arm-speed. Tolsma is equally effective out of the stretch with a modified slide-step and although he lists himself as a primary third baseman, he may see a lot of mound time in College because he can pitch ! He's definitely a player and pitcher with a bright future at the next level.
