Derek Legg is a 2008 MIF with a 5'11'', 160 lb. frame from Murrieta CA, who attends Vista Murrieta HS. He has a lean, athletically built body and is wiry strong. Legg did not have an outstanding event in terms of performance, but his ability was evident. More than anything, Legg is an aggressive player and looks built fo the college game. He is a contact, line drive typ of hitter, with a flat easy swing. He competes well on both sides of the plate, with a little pop on the left side, where he looked best. His hands work well and he swings with balance. Defensively he is a hard nosed competitor that likely ends every game with a dirty uniform. His range may eventually limit him to 2nd base at the D1 level, but his competitiveness could allow him to succeed as shortstop. Legg is a gamer with ability and plays a winning style of ball that plays really well in college. As he gets stronger his overall game will be enhanced. He committed to Long Beach State before his senior year.

Derek Legg is a 2008 MIF with a 5'10'', 155 lb. frame from Murrieta, CA, who attends Vista Murrieta HS. Legg has a lean and athletic frame with good projection. Defensively he has good footwork in the middle infield with smooth actions. Legg gets rid of the ball quickly with a nice release and shows an accurate arm. He goes well into the hole and his solid arm strength and quick release help him make the play. At the plate he is a switch hitter with a similar approach from both sides. Legg makes solid line drive contact and really like the ball out and away over the plate. He has a quiet, short stride, and stays balanced through his good swing. He centers the ball well and makes consistent contact. He had a sore leg and couldn't run the 60, but he plays the game with good speed and quickness. Good upside and an excellent student.

Derek Legg is a young 2008 middle infielder from Murrieta, California with a lean athletic build at 5'8", 130 pounds. He is a switch hitter with the same approach from both sides, with a wide base and a high finish. During BP he showed a bit more bat speed and pop from the left hand side, but he definitely has good potential from both sides. He has good bat speed and control and sprayed line drives to all fields. Defensively he has quick actions, and shows good agility moving well in all directions. He fields the ball with soft hands and has a smooth transfer. He showed decent arm strength for his age at 70 mph. Derek has very good skills for a freshman, and he could develop into a high level prospect as he matures.

Derek is a freshman middle infielder from Southern California with a small frame but lots of quick twitch muscles. His older brother David was also at the event and it's obvious that they are brothers by their athletic tools and actions. Read David's report and it will likely be Derek after a year's maturity and strength gain. If anything, Derek is quicker, though. Derek has pure middle infield actions with soft hands and a very quick first step for his age. He'll be able to stay in the middle infield at the next level and how his arm develops will determine whether that is at shortstop or second base. Derek is a switch hitter with a balanced, line drive approach from both sides. Unlike most young switch hitters he doesn't show a strong tendency to one side or the other and develops good bat speed with wood for a 130 pound 14 year old. He shows advanced bat head control. Derek plays the game with an enthusiasm that is nice to see in a young player. He has a very high probability of sustaining consistent improvement through his high school years and moving on to the college level.
