2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
OF Derek Hinke: Hinke is a senior outfielder from Iowa who has signed to attend Johnson County CC in Kansas next year. This young man has really worked hard to improve his strength and it was obvious in the Spring League and during the Showcase by watching his bat speed and how the ball jumped off the wood. Hinke hits with a high leg lift that he gets down in time and an aggressive, full cut. He hit a couple of home runs during the Spring League and smoked some balls at the Showcase as well. Hinke’s aggressiveness and hitting approach means he pulls a lot of balls and some of those are going to keep going out of the park at the college level. Hinke runs well and his arm is strong from any of the outfield spots.
