J P Ramirez is a 2008 OF/1B with a 5'10'', 180 lb. frame from New Braunfels, TX who attends Canyon HS. He has a strong, compact build that is physically mature. Ramirez is, quite simply, one of the best hitters in the 2008 class. He starts from a calm, balanced stance and explodes consistently thru the ball with easy plus bat speed. Ramirez rarely doesn't square up on the ball when he sees the pitch and shows the ability to hit the ball a long way to all parts of the field. He's has stood out as a hitter at PG/WWBA events since his freshman year and there is no reason to think he won't continue to be dominant hitter up to the top levels of the game. Ramiriez's athletic tools are solid, he's a 6.8 runner with good arm strength and has baseball instincts. The only missing piece is size as Ramirez is 5-10 at best and doesn't project physically. He could be a fast track prospect if a team trusts his offensive potential; otherwise he's a top student with his choice of schools across the country.
