2005 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Chad Loveless is a 5-9, 180 lb senior catcher from Michigan with a strong, stocky build. He threw 70 mph during drills with a best pop time of 2.17. During games, Loveless received the ball very well and showed nice lateral movement. He had a game pop time of 2.22 and overall performed very well in all areas of the defensive game while working very hard. At the plate, Loveless hits from an open stance and takes a full aggressive swing that generates good bat speed. During batting practice the ball really jumped off Loveless's bat well and he showed surprising power. During games, his aggressiveness tended to make him pull off the ball and leave him reaching for the ball. He has the ability to be a very productive hitter with some refinement to his approach. Loveless also showed that he was a very alert and effective baserunner during the games. Overall, Loveless is a scappy, hard nosed player who gets the most out of his tools and enjoys the game.
