Gary Bulman is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Greenbriar Christian Academy, residing in Virginia Beach, VA. Bulman has a powerful, broad, durable, innings-eater type build on a strong 6'3" 230 lb. frame. Though he is big and looks pretty much maxed out physically, his arm works really well. Bulman was ranked #39 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and has a chance to be one of the more consistent performers of this draft class. He pitches from a 3/4 slot and has a loose arm, with a two part action on the backside. Bulman creates good arm speed and has an aggressive delivery. Though there is some effort in his delivery, he can sustain his stuff. The more he learns to use his whole body, the better off he will be. One thing is for certain and that is Bulman has an arm that works and should stay healthy. His fastball topped at 92 and sat in the 88-91 mph range. At times there was good arm side life, bordering on sink. With more lower body incorporated in his delivery to provide a stable base, he could get more extension and downward life on his fastball. Bulman showed two types of breaking balls, one a 74 mph curveball and the other a more slurvry slider type, in the 76-79 mph range. Both may have been the same pitch, just thrown harder, but their shapes were a bit different. Both had decent spin and whe Bulman's delivery was on time, they were quality, usable pitches. He has a chance to develop that pitch into an above average breaking ball. Bulman also has a nice 78 mph change-up that comes out pretty well. His arm slot would seem tailor made for the change-up. When he was pounding the inner half with his fastball to RH hitters Bulman was at his best. He is a workhorse type of arm and should see early innings at the D1 level if goes to school. There will be some attention from the area scouts as Virginia Beach has become one of the nation's most fertile baseball talent areas.
