LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Parker Brunelle is a 2007 switch-hitting catcher from Wesleyan HS, residing in Snellville, GA. Brunelle is a strong, athletic build on a plus 6'2" 198 lb. frame. He passes the eye test and can play a bit too. Brunelle did not have his best showing but showed the tools that had him ranked #63 among PG National Top 100 position players. From both sides of the plate Brunelle has a chance to hit. From the right side he showed some fluid and relaxed hands that were quite quick. He has a short swing from the right side and stayed inside the ball with a line drive swing plane. From the left side Brunelle was a bit more aggressive. He showed more power from the left side, though that came from a swing that was a bit longer. Brunelle showed good bat speed from the left side and like on the right side, did a nice job of working to stay inside the ball. One thing in particular he did that was impressive was to really battle and compete in two strike situations. Behind the plate Brunelle is a quiet receiver who sits well and presents a good target. He looked like a very comfortable catcher to throw to. Brunelle did a nice job of receiving the quality stuff that was on the mound and looked quite relaxed doing so. He blocked well and showed near average in-game pop times (2.06). His raw arm strength rates as solid average. Brunelle is a good athlete beind the plate and can run a bit, with a 4.45 home to first time. It would seem as though he will first head to a D1 program before playing pro ball, but it is not out of the question to consider him having a big spring with the bat and getting his pro chance next June. He will get some looks from the area scouts, that much seems clear.
