John (Jack) McCarthy is a 2016 SS/RHP with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from San Juan Capistrano, CA who attends San Juan Hills. McCarthy has a long lean body with an athletic build. Defensively he has solid infield actions with clean footwork to the baseball. McCarthy has sound transfers and good arm strength up to 83 MPH across the infield. He showed body control when charging and fielding a slow roller with athleticism. He also showed some arm strength and online throws in game in the outfield in game. At the plate, McCarthy starts with an open stance and has an aggressive approach. He takes a hack and showed good middle of the field contact with some lift. The ball jumps some off his bat and he squared the ball up with hard contact in game. McCarthy showed hitting tools that project. He pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with a clean arm action. He has a blaanced delivery and repeats it well. McCarthy throws an 11/5 curveball with big break and also a change up with sink and run on it. Good student. Named to Top Prospect Team.
