LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Sequoyah Stonecipher is a 2007 right hand hitting outfielder from Mission Bay HS, residing in San Diego, CA. Stonecipher has a wiry strong and athletic build with room to fill out on his 6'1" 190 lb. frame. He was ranked #27 among PG National Top 100 position players. Stonecipher sets up at the plate with a slightly open stance. He is an aggressive player and that includes his hitting approach where he swings with aggressive intent each at-bat. The ball jumps off his bat and has a lot of carry, to all fields. He has strong wrists and hands and creates a lot of leverage at contact, producing more power than he otherwise would appear capable of producing. Stonecipher seems to have a knack for hammering mistake pitches but competes against all pitches in all zones, handling the fastball up particularly well. He takes a pretty big swing but generally is on time at contact. Even when he is a bit late, the ball comes off his bat well to the opposite field, making him the rare type of hitter that can be beat by a pitch but still make hard contact. Stonecipher is a gamer that seems to rise to the level he is playing against and always seems to have competitve at-bats. At this stage of his development he looks to be a middle of the order run producer, capable of very hot streaks with big time production. As an outfielder he is also a very quality player. With plus instincts and well above average feel for defense, he can play all three outfield spots, even though he is at best a fringe average runner. Stonecipher gets very good jumps on the ball and takes excellent routes and always is ready to throw, looking to do so on each and every play. His arm is strong and accurate and he is going to rack up the assists at each level he plays. He is a 4.59 runner home/1st and ran a 7.01 60 yard dash. Both times can be better, though the home to first time is a result of his aggressive swing. Stonecipher is committed to University of San Diego but will also garner plenty of pro attention as he is one of the stellar members of an outstanding high school position player class in Southern California.
