2004 South Top Prospect Showcase
John Moses is a 6'0/170 2005 right handed pitcher from Houston, TX, with some very good raw arm strength that he showed both from the outfield and from the mound. Moses throws from a high ¾ release point with some upper body tilt with a long, loose arm stroke. His fastball topped out at 86 mph, the same velocity that he threw from the outfield. Moses looked like he had a two-seamer that he mixed in for a different look that had some sink at 79-83 mph. Moses’ long arm stroke and high release point made throwing a standard curveball difficult. He threw it 57-63 mph with a big, looping 11 to 5 break. The very large speed differential made it difficult for hitters in Waco to hit. More velocity on the breaking ball will help at the next level. He showed good athletic ability and could be a position prospect as well. He hits left handed and shows good baseball instincts. However, he has that excellent arm and his future is probably on the hill. He's a definite DI pitching prospect.
