2005 Sunshine East Showcase
Gallego is a 5-10 junior right handed pitcher from South Florida with a mature, strong build. He throws from an over the top release point with some fall to the first base side on release. Gallego showed nice arm strength with a fastball that topped out at 85 mph. He threw two types of curveball; a 71 mph 12/6 breaking ball that was tight and sharp at times and a slower 63 mph curveball that wasn't as sharp and was more of a change of pace pitch. Gallego's 71 mph change up is still developing. Gallego also worked out at first base and in the oufield and showed excellent arm strength at both those positions. He's a right handed hitter with very strong hands and some serious power on pitches on the inside half. Gallego has some mechanical adjustments he could make but still really caught our attention with his bat speed and the way the ball exploded off his bat. We wouldt be surprised if he doesn't have a big year this year offensively and puts himself on the college coaches' prospect map as a hitter as well as as a pitcher. Gallego is also a good student.
