2003 Sunshine West Showcase
In a showcase with several top corner infielders, Rivera was unable to stand out with his bat. First basemen are known for their bat and usually carry power but Rivera swung within himself not allowing his bat to become erratic and out of its normal rhythm. He has a good swing, but will benefit by staying in on the ball and driving it where its pitched more. He can hit line drives to left field but the outer half pitch might be a tough coverage area as he has a tendency to step out. He is strong enough to drive the fence down the line and we think the correction will not be difficult. His arm strength from the 1B position is playable at the next level and he has mobility there, but fielding ground balls he lacked footwork. He has the start of some good things to come and with minor adjustments he should be able to show major improvements. Good Student.
