2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Christopher Curtis is a 2008 SS/P with a 5'11'', 180 lb. frame from Vacaville, CA who attends Vanden HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event and is the type of player that excels at the college level and eventually gets some pro interest. He has a strong build and a compact athletic body type that is well-suited for the middle of the field. Curtis is a talented player with some feel for the game and an aggressive approach to the game. Offensively he has a big aggressive swing, with good bat speed and some present day power. He could stand to cut down his swing a bit and will need to against better pitching at the college level, but he does have a chance to be an above average college hitter in the top part of the order. Defensively he is really good, with good hands and a strong arm. Curtis plays well on the move and closes on the ball well. He should be able to stay at shortstop for the foreseeable future. At the college level he also has a chance to compete on the mound, possibly in a late inning relief role. Curtins has a quick arm and a sneaky 85-87 mph fastball. His arm stroke is short and the ball gets on hitters quickly. He also has a downer 12/6 curveball (71 mph) that has depth to dive below bats. He competes well and approaches pitching like the gamer that he is. To watch him over the course of a few days gives a scout the best chance to appreciate Curtis full range of abilities.
