2006 08 National Showcase
Brian Sagun is a 2008 right hand hitting middle infielder from Mission Bay HS, residing in San Diego, CA. He has a 5'8" 140 lb. frame and a thin, athletic, wiry build. Sagun has well above average feel for the game, both offensively and defensively. When he develops more strength, he could move into the upper echelons of '08 middle infielders. There is little on the field he cannot do. He is a fundamentally sound hitter, in both approach and ability. His hands stay inside the ball well and he uses the whole field, peppering line drives with ease. His swing is easy and with his bat control and understanding of the game, he is a prototype 2-hole type hitter. Not much power can be expected, but he will hit some gappers and place balls down the line for extra base hits. In the field Sagun is a plus defender, with plus feel for the game. He plays easily and displays efficient and smooth actions. His hands are soft, his arm is accurate, the release is quick, and he takes very good angles to the ball. His feet are also a plus and with added strength should come an even better first step and even more range. Sagun possesses plenty of skills and should be a highly recruited middle infielder. The pro game may be in his future after college.
