2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
C William Greatbatch: Greatbatch is a physically mature young catcher from Iowa who also played in the Spring League. He has a solid, strong lower half and hips but not as much strength in his upper half. Greatbatch uses his lower body strength well in his swing and showed us some occasional power during Spring League. His swing tends to get long at times and he’s prone to dropping his hands under the ball and hitting impressive pop ups. Greatbatch works hard behind the plate and does a nice job blocking pitches. He has some arm strength and showed good accuracy with his throws throughout the spring. Greatbatch also pitched some in relief at the Showcase and during the Spring League and was usually in the 78-80 mph range with a 66-67 mph breaking ball.
