JD Nielsen is a 2012 LHP with a 6-6 205 lb. frame from Winterset, IA who attends Martensdale-St. Marys HS. Long limbed build, big feet, lacks present strength. Easy delivery with loose arm action, high 3/4's release point, good extension out front. Fastball to 84 mph, very projectable velocity with additional strength, gets occasional fade on fastball when low. Good shape to curveball, some downer depth at times, developing change up. Has some feel for throwing strikes and changing speeds. Will definitely improve as he gains strength, potential draft in 2015. Good student, signed with Illinois.
