2003 Sunshine West Showcase
One of the bigger players in the showcase, Righi showed some ability on the hill and at first base. As a pitcher he was 78-81 with his fastball and 60-64 on the breaking ball. He didn't over-power any of the hitters but relied on mixing speeds to keep the batter guessing. His arm works good and he gets a lot out of his body, but from a prospect point of view we liked his bat even more. He got hits and some of them were showing wood power. He could use a little more bat-speed for the good fastballs, but he did drive some balls straight more than 300 feet and hit a couple nice line drives in the game that were impressive. One sac fly he had showed some loft power and he hit it off a good pitch. He has the strength and now it is just up to him to get the bat in the line-up to show it off.
