Jacob Moreno is a 2006 LHP/1B from Etiwanda HS in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, with a 5'11", 155 lb. frame. On the mound Moreno stays balanced over the rubber with good leverage. He hits his spots, keeps the ball down, and mixes his pitches well. Moreno had to leave early with a blister on his throwing hand, but he allowed only 1 hit in his 2 1/3 innings pitched. There is good depth to his curveball with a 1 to 7 break, but he slows his arm and tips the pitch. Moreno has a projectable body and should add velocity in the future. Defensively, he had outstanding footwork around the first base bag. He moves well and shifts his feet like an advanced first baseman. Moreno has good fielding actions as well, and showed arm strength on his throws across the diamond. At the plate he is a left handed hitter with a wide base and good balance. He is a line drive hitter and gets good leverage in his swing with some strength. Moreno is also an outstanding student.
