Andrew Williamson is a 2006 C from Corona Del Mar HS, residing in Newport Beach, CA, with a 6'0", 206 lb. frame. He has a strong and powerful build. He is a switch hitter and displays good balance and a flat bat path from the right side, hitting from a square stance. From the left side Williamson hits from an open stance and has a quick bat. He is strong to the pull side and has an aggressive swing. Williamson has strong hands offensively and defensively. He receives well, in particluar the curveball, as he is able to stick it before it falls below the zone. He does a good job of keeping strikes in the zone and puts in good effort to block balls in the dirt. Williamson's throws are generally on-line to second base, but the time he takes to make accurate throws holds him back from being the type of thrower who will throw out many runners. He is a consistent thrower, but needs to speed up his footwork and increase his arm strength. As a switch hitting catcher with some physicallity with the bat, he will get some looks. Further development at the JC level would be a good thing for Williamson.
