Navarro didn’t look that great on the radar gun at the PG National, but the hitters told us that he was a very solid left handing pitching prospect. There were plenty of ineffectual swings and easy outs when Navarro was on the mound. Navarro is the type of pitcher who has an instinctive ability to pitch the full spectrum of speeds. He throws a four-seem fastball at 83-85 mph but keeps it away from the middle of the plate. He’ll mix in some two-seamers with good sink on them at 79-81 mph and then come back with a quality change up in the 73-74 mph range. When Navarro mixes in a 70 mph sweeping curveball to complete the package, the hitter can’t time a pitch or figure out which way it’s going to move. It’s only a matter of time and coaching before someone teaches him to cut his fastball or throw a slider for a fifth pitch. Needless to say, Navarro throws strikes with all his pitches now from a simple, well balanced delivery. Another thing in Navarro’s favor is that he’s a pretty good athlete at first base and may be able to swing the bat at the next level. He will pitch at a good college baseball program and look for him to be very successful. Efren is listed at 6'1/147, so it goes without saying he might throw much harder as he gains some weight and gets stronger. Navarro at 90 mph or better is a big time pro prospect.
