Derek McCawley is a 2008 3B/P with a 0'0'', 0 lb. frame from Phoenix, AZ, who attends Mountain Pointe HS. McCawley is a young player with present strength. Defensively he moves well in the infield, and threw 68 mph across the diamond. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a slightly closed and upright stance. He stays tall through contact and takes an aggressive swing. McCawley shows quick hands and keeps his hands and weight back well. He has a rotational swing and generates gap power. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm circle on the back side. He throws out of the stretch keeping his mechanics inline to the plate. His fastball topped out at 71 mph with occasional sinking action. He was consistently around the plate with is fastball getting ahead of hitters. McCawley is also a good student.
