2005 Spring Top Prospect
Tiegs is a 6-2 senior right handed pitcher from Ontario. He threw very well at the showcase and looks like the type of young pitcher who has a lot more in his arm and body. Tiegs generates good arm speed from a long, flat arm arch in back with a ¾’s release point. His fastball was very consistently 84-86 mph for three innings and he spotted this pitch well. Tiegs best pitch was his 72 mph curveball, which really got sharp and big when he got a feel for his release point. Tiegs has some mechanical things that he could work on, such as getting his hips and front side closed during his delivery to give him more leverage to the plate, that might help him improve his raw stuff almost immediately. Overall, Tiegs is a promising young pitcher with Division I college potential and maybe more. He’s a good student.
