Louis Cazares is a 2007 SS/2B from Granite Hills HS, residing in El Cajon, CA, with a 5'9" 160 lb. frame. Cazares was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. He has a strong, compact, yet athletic build, built to handle contact around the bag at second base. A right handed hitter, Cazares has a quick trigger and good bat speed. He possesses an easy and short swing while maintaining good balance during the swing. Overall, Cazares has a very solid hitting approach and the type of offensive abilities that suggest he will hit at each level he plays. His swing is good and uncomplicated. On defense Cazares has a calm set-up, meaning that he is patient to the ball, making efficient movements. He reads the ball well and makes plays on the run due to his good body control. In terms of raw footspeed, Cazares has below average speed, but he seems to compensate for it with his anticipation in the field. He shows some actions but is not flashy and has a quick release. Overall, Cazares has a very good feel for the defensive side of the game. He is a good all-around player and will play D1 baseball. He should be a strong summer follow for most D1s in the West region.
