Andrew Vasquez is a 2006 C/1B from Sabino HS in Tucson, AZ, with a 5'11", 180 lb. frame. Vasquez has a good catcher's body and showed solid transfers during the showcase games. His release was better in the games than during the workout, along with showing better arm strength. Vasquez did a good job blocking balls in the dirt moving well from side to side with good lateral quickness. He also showed good receiving skills and worked will with the pitchers. At the plate he hits from a straight away stance and takes a short stride. A weight breakdown in his swing makes his hands drop causing inconsistent contact at the plate. Vasquez is a very good student as well.
