2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Blake Cestr is a 2009 C 3B/1B/P with a 6'4'', 190 lb. frame from Huntington Beach, CA who attends Huntington Beach HS. He has a long and lanky body type that is very physically projectable. Cestr was interesting to watch because he has so much upside and not just at one position. On the mound he has an easy arm action with good arm speed and a 79-83 mph fastball that will continue to gain velocity in the next two years. The ball really comes out his hand well. Cestr also has a big 69 mph curveball with some depth. As a position player he showed promise behind the plate and on the infield corners. He sits well as a receiver and picks up the ball out of the pitcher's hand early, giving him a chance to be a well above average receiver. Offensively he showed a decent timing mechanism and flashed some power to the opposite field. His hands are strong and he will be able to create some leverage in his swing. Check back in a year and Cestr just might be one of the top talents in Southern California.
