LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Justin Jackson is a 2007 righ hand hitting shortstop from T.C. Roberson HS, residing in Asheville, NC. Jackson has an athletic, long, lithe, sinewy build on his 6'2" 170 lb. frame. His body movements are smooth and fluid without trying to be so. Jackson has been a nationally acclaimed player and is no secret to the scouting community as he is a former high school teammate of 2005 1st round pick Cameron Maybin and highly regarded '06 grad RHP Josh Thrailkill. Jackon lived up to his advanced billing, even improving his stock. He was ranked #1 among PG National Top 100 position players and is just getting better and better. There has never been a question about Jackson's ability to play the shortstop position, but there was some question about what type of hitter he would become. Well, in Fayetteville he started to answer that question. Jackson showed an effortless swing and made a whole lot of plus barrel contact. He is still developing in a physical sense but the ball is already coming off his bat so much better than most figured it would at this stage of development. He looks now looks like a future three-hole who is going to hit for power and average, not to mention steal some bases. Jackson accelerates through contact and his hands really work in his swing. His hitting tools are now both above average, making Jackson one of the rare legitimate five tool prospects. In the field his actions are silky smooth and he is a pure joy to watch play. He flows to and through the ball well and has a plus arm. His hands are soft, his footwork polished, and frankly, there is not much to pick at. Jackson has Big League shortstop tools and they are already playable. His running has also moved to the plus side of the grading scale, with a 4.15 time home/1st and a laser timed 6.57 60 yard dash. At this point Jackson is a 1st round pick in Junen 2007.
