Matthew Mercer is a 2015 RHP/SS with a 6-1 160 lb. frame from Lacey, WA who attends Timberline HS. Slender athletic build, lacks present strength but very projectable. Long two-piece arm action, loose and fast coming through, 3/4's arm slot, tension free arm stroke, can improve direction and balance to the plate. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph, good arm side running action at times and fastball will cut glove side. Sweeping slurve type breaking ball with good 10/4 depth, has the potential to develop a power slider in the future, rare change up. Lots of untapped velocity in the arm with additional strength and physical maturity. Nice middle infield actions defensively, very quick hands and release, charges the ball well, soft hands. Right handed hitter, back side hitter, keeps hands close to body, opposite field contact. Follow very closely on the mound. Good student, verbal commitment to Washington State.
