Alex Kenny is a 2007 right hand hitting outfielder from Mendham HS, residing in Chester, NJ. He has a long, thin, wiry build on a 6'3" 160 lb. frame that he is still growing into. It will be awhile before his baseball tools and abilities can totally be graded out because he is far from being physically developed. As it is, you can tell Kenny has good ability, so stay on him, he is a sleeper. At the plate he hits from a square stance and has a pre-pitch hitch with his hands as a timing mechanism. Kenny's swing plane is a bit sweeping and his barrel stays in the zone quite well, resulting in spray line-drive contact. The stronger he gets, the more his offensive ability will stand out. He has decent timing at the plate. In the field Kenny showed off a strong average arm and a good release. He is an accurate thrower and should continue to develop as a ball hawking outfielder. He ran 7.06 in the 60 and is one player that can be expected to get faster as he continues to develop physically. There is a lot to like about Kenny in a present day sense and it looks like there is going to be a lot more to like in the future, though that future may still be three years away. Look for him to really blossom in a college program and three years after his high school graduation we may hear an awful lot about him. It is easy to get locked in on the abundance of physical high school players that exist these days, but it is actually quite enjoyable to see a young, projectable athlete like Kenny that still has a lot of room to grow, as a player and as a physical being.
